Nadine Marchal worked with three artists so as to enhance the final project and to give inhabitants the opportunity to discover several arts.
It all started with workshops including both photography and video, with Fanny Marchal and Ivan Felbabel; walks in the streets, discovery of significant places in the borough, mime of scenes from everyday life…
The result of this work was sorted out by the inhabitants and Nadine Marchal. Photos were projected onto large canvases; the objective was to draw the outlines of the photos using the projected images as a guide and to create simple graphics. This way, the groups painted their friends, their neighbors, theirs children, their street… And twenty-eight paintings were thus created.
The objective was both to exhibit them and to use them as scenography material for the 10 mn animated film directed by Ivan Felbabel and Nadine Marchal. Stanislas Pierrel, a French musician and composer, created the soundtrack to the film and the themes for it.
The ”Théâtre de la Renaissance’’ (Oullins, Rhone, France) had offered its room ‘’Bac a traille” for the exhibition of this first stage of the work; the theater itself is now open for the project. Gilles Feuvrier, director, and Nadine Marchal worked together: “Un grain de riz” (“A single grain of rice”) was created in 2010.
The whole of the project was then collected in a book that was given by the city of Oullins to the whole of the persons who took part to the project. Several copies are available at Oullins’ Public Library.
